Hello! I'm Rose Enos (she/they), a student at UC Irvine, where I study pure mathematics and intelligent computer systems. I do research on student experiences and diversity, equity, and inclusion in computer science. I also work as a tutor for the School of Information and Computer Sciences and as a learning assistant for the discrete math series. My curriculum vitae is here.
I read romance, queer theory, gender studies, and autotheory. I write realist fiction, critical art analysis, and positive psychology. My favorite literary works are Testo Junkie, Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars, and various web works.
I make short games and visual novels. I mostly play short, narrative-driven games, visual novels, and mystery games. My favorite games include Minecraft, Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, and it gets so lonely here. I'm also a fan of Honkai: Star Rail, Love and Deepspace, and BTS World.
I like watching reality TV and K-dramas with my girlfriend, and I make mostly let's-play videos, also with my girlfriend. Some of my favorite film/TV works are Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, I Saw the TV Glow, Star Wars, Single's Inferno, and The Hunger.
I listen to The Beatles and TWICE, among other artists. I compose for my own games and sometimes transcribe songs I like.
Now
I'm currently focused on graduate school applications, research work with CSEd and the DapLab, tutoring work, and writing.
Last year, I was a tutor at the ICS Tutoring Center, which was a great experience and my first paid job. In the winter, I was again the head learning assistant for discrete math, whose team and students were superb. In the spring, I was a learning assistant for automata theory with several of my friends, which was great fun. Also in spring, Julia and I presented at CCSC Southwest and UROP, with a lot more work underway alongside our wonderful team. The crown jewel, in my mind, was my summer job at the ICS Summer Academy with an amazing and competent crowd, and a set of students to whom I am very grateful.
I've been jumping on graduate applications, hoping that they'll spit out something useful to me, like a nice statement of purpose. No such luck, so I guess I'll have to write it myself. I do have the good fortune of knowing a really wonderful set of recommenders!
My hobbies this year have mainly been my website and my writing—fiction writing, that is! I finally moved all my writing over to AO3, which is nice and FOSSy. Writing will probably slow down once summer's over, but that's life!
